MONTH THREE CONTINUED
Our loving Father, Who will always be faithful to us, is
represented this week as El Shaddai, the Lord God Almighty.
He is superlative in virtue, perfect in power, and the wonder
of His attributes are beyond our comprehension.
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind:
"Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Who determined its measurements--surely you know!
Or Who shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth from the womb;
Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to
know its place,
Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep?
Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go and say to you, 'Here we are'?
Can you hunt the prey for the lion, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
Do you know when the mountain goats bring forth? Do you observe the calving of the
lambs?
Is the wild ox willing to serve you? Will he spend the night at your crib?
Do you give the horse his might? Do you clothe his neck with strength?
Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars, and speads his wings toward the south?
Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up and makes his nest on high?..."
Then Job answered the Lord;
"I know that thou canst do all things, and that no purpose of thine can be thwarted..."
Job 38:1.2,4,5,8,12,16,35,39 Job 39:1,9,26,27 Job 42:1-2
It is a comfort to know that we possess a Father so ideal in His attitude toward us and
a Father Who is so committed to us . Our sense of security is further intensified by
the fact that our Father is able to protect and defend us. His protection and
power will never cease.
Fortified by the strength given to us by the Almighty, we can accept hardships, tribulations,
sorrow and pain in the same spirit as St. John Chrysostom of the 4th century:
" Storms are all about me, yet I do not fear for I stand on a rock.
The roaring sea and the rising waves cannot dash into pieces
the ship of Jesus Christ. I do not fear death which brings me gain;
nor banishment for the Lord is everywhere; nor the loss of goods
for I came into this world naked and can take nothing out of it."
