Father in Heaven, Who has a plan for our lives, when the Blessed Virgin Mary gave her consent to the Angel Gabriel, she caused us to receive our divine Redeemer Jesus; help me to be in accord with Your will for me. |

Heavenly Father, Who has created me and breathed into me the Spirit of life, help me to live Your Word. |

St. Gregory Nazianzen speaks of the Christian as an "instrument played by the Holy Spirit." The aim of asceticism is to keep this instrument in tune. What we must do is bring the strings of the delicate instrument, which is our whole being, to the exact pitch which the Holy Spirit desires of us, in order that the Spirit may produce in us the exquisite melody of divine love, that we were created to sing before the face of our heavenly Father. Tears poured down his face: he was not at the moment afraid of damnation-- even the fear of pain was in the background. He felt only an immense disappointment because he had to go to God empty-handed, with nothing done at all. It seemed to him at that moment that it would have been quite easy to have been a saint. It would only have needed a little self-restraint and a little courage. He felt like someone who has missed happiness by seconds at an appointed place. He knew now that at the end there was only one thing that counted--to be a saint. Author Graham Green 20th century From: Novel-The Power and the Glory |
