BLESSED ARE THE
POOR IN SPIRIT,
FOR THEIRS IS THE
KINGDOM OF GOD.
In the gospel cited above,
John 1: 1-4;9-13;14-17;18,
Jesus is identified as the Word
sent by our Almighty Father
to enlighten and instruct us
as to how we may become worthy
to deserve eternal salvation

In the Sermon of the Mount, Jesus
delivered a message to guide us:
the eight beatitudes.

"POOR OF SPIRIT"  This poverty is poverty of the spirit
not poverty of the body.

It indicates than man is drawn toward withdrawal from the urges
of ambition, the pride of success, the desire for riches, etc

Man wishes to rest entirely with all hopes only in God, his Creator.
He realizes that without God he is utterly helpless,
and this knowledge enables him to trust and obey.

Man's reward for maintaining this life style is eternal salvation,
joyfully dwelling with God, His angels and His Saints in Heaven.

Blessed is the current state of well-being,
contentment and joy which we experience
when the divine favor rests on us.
This occurs when we possess the inward qualities
which please our God.
These qualities are outlined in the Beatitudes,
our guide toward blessedness in this life and the
eternal rewards promised in each beatitude.
Yes, successful men and wealthy men who possess
humility before God are poor in spirit.

Personalities in the bible possessing material goods
and successful lives in addition to being poor in spirit:
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and Joseph of
Arimathea were wealthy.  Dynamic men who also
possessed a poor in spirit attitude: Isaiah (Isaiah
57:15);Gideon (Judges 6:15); Moses (Exodus 4:10)
Solomon (1Kings 3:5-9).
